We are delighted to thank dear friends of UCLA Linguistics, alumnus Thomas J. Bye, Ph.D. ’76 and steadfast supporter David R. Bohne, for their legacy gift of $1,500,000 to establish the Thomas Bye and David Bohne Term Chair in Linguistics! Term-appointed and existing in perpetuity, this endowed chair will be held by a scholar whose work aims to provide a bridge between theoretical linguistics and practical problems of language use in everyday life.
With Tom and David’s decision to fund a portion of their estate pledge now, we expect to establish this Term Chair soon.
We are very grateful to Tom and David for their support of the department, and for enabling the pursuit of innovative ideas to deepen our understanding of the world through language.
