Maayan Abenina-Adar

I am a final-year PhD student in linguistics at UCLA. I study a variety of natural language phenomena, including quantification, question-embedding, free relatives, scalar particles/polarity items, and tense-aspect-modality markers. Generally, I seek to understand what roles grammatical and pragmatic knowledge play in producing speakers' judgments about meaning, and I am interested in crosslinguistic variation and uniformity in the way a concept is grammatically expressed; to that end, I draw on data from English (my native language), Tagalog, and Hebrew (my heritage languages).
