Pheatures for Linguistics 20

Prof. Bruce Hayes
Department of Linguistics
UCLA

This is the Linguistics 20 version of a program written by Floris van Vugt which is a kind of calculator for phonological features.  I believe the program greatly increases reliability in the use of features and also helps students learn how the features work.

The program was originally written by van Vugt for use in more advanced UCLA phonology undergraduate courses. This version is adapted by me to use the newbie-features that I adopt in Linguistics 20.

I am making the program available on the "GitHub" web site. This is needed since providing web security for downloadable software is not something ordinary web sites try to handle.  Visit Github at

https://github.com/BrucePHayes/Pheatures-for-Linguistics-20/tree/master

and download the zip file PheaturesForLing20.zip.  Unzip it on your computer.  There is a manual in pdf, and a bunch of segment inventories for languages including English.

The program is in Java and will run on your computer (Mac or Windows), provided you make sure your computer has the Java Runtime Environment, currently available here.
