LAX to/from UCLA
Flyaway Express Bus
The FlyAway bus is the fastest and most convenient form of public transportation between Westwood and the LAX airport (and is what we recommend if you are not renting a car). Unlike other LA buses, the FlyAway bus runs on the freeway, and stops at each terminal in LAX. Buses run every half hour on the :30 and :00, from 5am-1am, and the trip to the airport takes between 15 and 45 minutes, depending on the time of day.
- Cost: $4 one way; when going to LAX, check your baggage in early for an extra $5
- UCLA to LAX: Board the bus on Kinross Avenue between Gayley and Veteran, at Parking Lot 32. (The UCLA shuttle can take you between campus and Lot 32.)
- LAX to UCLA: Stand under the "FlyAway Bus" sign outside any terminal. There are three FlyAway bus lines, so make sure you get on the correct one! The driver will announce whether the bus is a "Union Station", "Van Nuys" or "Westwood/UCLA" bus. Once at the Westwood/UCLA terminus, you can take a UCLA shuttle to campus, or a local bus.
For more information, you can visit the Flyaway Bus website, here:
http://www.lawa.org/lax/LAXflyAway.cfm.
Taxi or Shuttle
Both taxis and shared shuttles leave from clearly labeled spots outside each terminal. Reservations are not required for either of these from LAX.
Inform the driver that you are going to UCLA, and that they should take the 405 north, get off at Sunset and go east. The driver will reach the 405 freeway in 5-10 minutes, then go north on the freeway for about ten miles. They should take the Sunset Boulevard exit, turn right on Sunset, then continue for about 1 1/2 miles. After descending a long hill you will reach a traffic light at Westwood Plaza, the first light shown on the map. Continue on Sunset past this light, then turn right at the second light after that, on Royce Drive. Take Royce Drive past the stop sign, then have the driver pull into a small parking lot immediately ahead on your left.
Car
Leave the airport on Century Boulevard, going east. Go north on the
405
freeway (=San Diego Freeway). Go approximately 11 miles, exit at
Sunset Boulevard (previous
two exits: Wilshire, Montana). Turn right on Sunset and go 1.5 miles. Turn right on Westwood Plaza (first traffic light at end of long downhill slope), then go forward about a block to the parking kiosk. Obtain parking and directions to the "parking structure" (this is the local word for a parking garage) to which you have been assigned. More detailed information on parking is
on this page.
This trip takes anywhere from 25 minutes to over an hour, depending on traffic.
If you rented a car, you can start your northward journey by going
north (left) on Airport Boulevard, right on La Tijera, then north on the 405 freeway.

City Buses
This is rather slow, but a few dollars cheaper than the Flyaway. There's a nice web site in LA that tells you exactly how to ride the buses and which bus to take, here:
Metro Trip Planner
Type "LAX" in the "starting from" window, and "UCLA" in the "ending at" window. On the UCLA end you can specify either "Hilgard terminal" or "Ackerman Terminal". These maps (
Ackerman terminal,
Hilgard terminal) show you how to walk to the Linguistics Department from these two bus terminals.
Burbank Airport to/from UCLA
Shuttle
Shared shuttles are also available from Burbank airport, although (unlike at LAX) reservations are required. Contact Supershuttle at
www.supershuttle.com or by phone (800) BLUE-VAN (258-3826) to make a reservation or inquire about fares.
City Buses
Public transportation is also available from Burbank airport, but is quite time consuming and runs somewhat infrequently. Take Metro Bus 165 to Vanowen and Van Nuys Blvds, transfer to Metro Rapid 761 to the Federal Bldg and take either the Santa Monica Blue Bus 1, 2 or 8 to UCLA or Culver City Bus 6 to UCLA; fare $2.75. Please be sure to visit the
Metro Trip Planner to coordinate your flight times with the bus schedule.

Here is a map that has been modified to highlight relevant areas on campus.
UCLA Shuttle
The UCLA campus/Wilshire shuttles are free of charge and run frequently Monday-Friday (not on the weekend). On them, you can make your way around campus and also around Westwood. Information about the shuttle, including a map and schedule, can be found in
this PDF.
Parking at UCLA
Parking permits are required at all times for all vehicles parked on campus. The following website gives general instructions on how to park at UCLA:
UCLA Parking
We recommend that you park in parking structures 3, 4 or 5, which are the closest to the conference locations. More information can be found
here.
(Note-although directions are to the Linguistics Department in Campbell Hall, WCCFL 27 is not being held there. Consider it to be only a landmark.)
