Peter Jusczyk Best Paper Award to Laurel Perkins

Published: November 13, 2025

Congratulations to Laurel Perkins and collaborators, whose paper “Thematic content, not number matching, drives syntactic bootstrapping” was awarded the 2025 Peter Jusczyk Best Paper Award by the journal Language Learning and Development. The paper, co-authored with Tyler Knowlton, Alexander Williams and Jeffrey Lidz, argues against the prior claim that infants expect the number of arguments in a clause to exactly match the number of participant roles in the event concept under which the clause’s referent is viewed.
