Grace Shoemaker, who graduated in 2025 from Linguistics at UCLA, is first author on a new paper out in the journal Health Communications. The paper is co-authored with faculty member Jessica Rett and former graduate student Katya Khlystova. It reports on an extensive experiment using linguistic framing techniques to investigate people’s understanding of the term ‘cancer’ and its synonyms and near-synonyms.
