UCLA receives $1 million for Elahé Omidyar Mir-Djalali postdoctoral fellowship in Iranian linguistics

Elahé Omidyar Mir-Djalali, a renowned linguist, founded Roshan Cultural Heritage Institute in 2000.

donation of $1 million from Roshan Cultural Heritage Institute will establish the Elahé Omidyar Mir-Djalali Postdoctoral Fellowship in Iranian Linguistics in the UCLA Department of Linguistics, one of the nation’s top-ranked linguistics departments.

“The Elahé Omidyar Mir-Djalali Postdoctoral Fellowship in Iranian Linguistics provides a unique opportunity to bring a new dimension of research to the department,” said linguistics department co-chair Anoop Mahajan. “This generous grant will allow us to expand our empirical horizons into the intellectually rich area of Iranian linguistics.”

Tim Stowell, co-chair of the department, said that thanks to Roshan Cultural Heritage Institute’s generosity and vision, the department would solidify its status as a premier destination for the study of Iranian linguistics.
